Preparing Your Child for a Successful Return to School

We had a fantastic and successful Holiday Club at DHi Education and Arts, where the kids enjoyed themselves and took part in plenty of outdoor activities!

As the summer holidays come to an end, it’s time to start thinking about getting your child ready to return to school. As a parent from Brent, London, you want to ensure your child has a smooth and successful transition back to the classroom. Here are some valuable tips to help you prepare your child for primary school:

Primary School

Establish a Routine

  • Bedtime routine: Encourage your child to establish a consistent bedtime routine, including activities such as reading, storytelling, or relaxation techniques.
  • Wake-up time: Gradually adjust your child’s wake-up time to match the school schedule, so they’re well-rested and ready for the day ahead.
  • Mealtimes: Establish a regular mealtime routine, including healthy breakfast options, to fuel their minds and bodies.

Academic Preparation

  • Review schoolwork: Encourage your child to review their schoolwork, including math, reading, and other subjects, to refresh their knowledge.
  • Practice reading: Engage your child in fun reading activities, such as reading together, creating a reading schedule, or setting reading challenges.
  • Math practice: Engage your child in math activities, such as puzzles, games, or math-based apps, to maintain their math skills.

Social Skills

  • Role-playing: Engage your child in role-playing activities to practice social skills, such as sharing, taking turns, and cooperation.
  • Emotional intelligence: Encourage your child to express their emotions and develop emotional intelligence through activities such as art, music, or drama.
  • Friendship skills: Encourage your child to develop friendship skills, such as building relationships, communication, and empathy.

By following these tips, you can help your child prepare for a successful return to school. Remember to stay involved, communicate regularly with teachers, and provide ongoing support to ensure your child thrives in the classroom.
